"Daraxt"

In line with the proposed year of environmental protection and a green economy in Uzbekistan, the project "DARAXT" reflects the national commitment to sustainable growth of the economy and environment. We invite the Government of Uzbekistan and all concerned people to come together in achieving these goals.

Problem

Dust Storms and Soil Degradation: The drying Aral Sea has created the Aralkum Desert, causing dust storms that disrupt soil and air quality, lower agricultural productivity, and harm people. It is reported that environmental issues cost Karakalpakstan $44.2 million annually, 2.1% of the region’s GDP.

Urban Green Spaces: Currently, only 8% of urban areas are covered with green spaces, which is below global standards.

Solution

Leveraging crowdfunding, Blue Water & Green Environment (a Germany-based non- profit organization) aims to bring together local residents and members of the Uzbek diaspora to enhance environmental conditions in Uzbekistan through a platform for direct contributions.

Outcomes

Environmental restoration: increased urban green space from 8% to 30% in line with Uzbekistan’s “Yashil Makon” initiatives to plant over 1 billion trees and bushes over five years

Social & Economic Impact: According to the World Bank, the economic gain of reforestation is equivalent to over $39 million per year as well as creating many jobs.

Climate Change: reduced millions of tonnes of CO2, contributing to global goals on mitigating the effects of climate change

Future Prespective

Shaping the Sustainable Tourism: Tourists visiting Uzbekistan will be able to plant their tree (apple, grape, ordinary, etc.). Each tree will be personalized and added to a digital platform so that they can monitor everything and even come and see the tree and enjoy the harvest on their return visit.
